In the book’s second and third acts we find out a little more as the boys’ history is investigated, but even by the end of the novel there’s still a lot we don’t know. It doesn’t feel quite right to say I loved WIMMERA given it is so sad and full of melancholy.4/5(4). ISBN: OCLC Number: Notes: Cover has subtitle: A regional history. Its a book of light and shadows, tuning into the lives of two best friends at specific times in their lives. 11 year olds Ben and Fab, are living in a small town in Victoria inwe then catch up with Fab's life decades Wimmera book after the momentous events that happened when he was a young, still stuck in the same town wh There really are some terrific Aussie writers out there, and award winning Mark Brandi is a /5().

Wimmera was one of those books I didn’t want to put down, I was bursting to know what happened and wasn’t disappointed at all. A really touching, moving and a little bit of a squeamish read.

I went through a whole gamut of emotions reading this and that for me is exactly what a really good book is all about.

I’d seen quite a bit of hype around Wimmera, the debut novel by Melbourne writer, Mark Brandi whose work has been published in journals, magazines and newspapers in Australia and overseas.

In fact, Brandi was awarded the UK Crime Writers’ Association Dagger for this debut.3/5. Mark Brandi is the author of Wimmera ( avg rating, ratings, reviews, published ), The Rip ( avg rating, ratings, reviews, p /5.

Mark Brandi's bestselling novel, Wimmera, won the coveted British Crime Writers' Association Debut Dagger, and was named Best Debut at the Australian Indie Book was also shortlisted for the Australian Book Industry Awards Literary Fiction Book of the Year, and the Matt Richell Award for New Writer of Wimmera book Year.

There seems to be a recent surge of excellent Australian debut novels. Wimmera by Mark Brandi is no exception. This coming of age/murder mystery fusion is set in Stawell, a country town in the Wimmera region of Victoria. The Grampians loom large as a backdrop to the relationship of Ben and Fab.

Wimmera is a dark and melancholy coming-of-age story / murder mystery from a talented new voice in Australian crime fiction. Incorporating some iconic Australian elements, the story is like time-travel back to the eighties, capturing the quintessential rural Australian spirit of the time.5/5(11).

Eric Bana is an executive producer for the project, his first role in an Australian film since with the release of 'Romulus, my father' another book to film drama. Roll forward to February, and last weekend a casting call went out to Beulah and Minyip for extras for the shooting of "a major film".

Mark Brandi's first crime novel, Wimmera, has already won the British Crime Writers' Association Debut Dagger. Such recognition is good news for Australian authors still inclined to set their crime fiction in an anonymous elsewhere in order to find a global readership.

Wimmera  is a languid, unsettling novel that perfectly captures life in small-town Australia, from the s television shows and celebrities to the heat, bugs and dust. Mark Brandi is excellent at concealing, allowing the reader to join the dots, until the end when the slow reveal is perhaps even more shocking than imagined.

Then a newcomer arrived in the Wimmera. Fab reckoned he was a secret agent and he and Ben staked him out. Up close, the man's. And with Wimmera now out in the world, it’s gratifying to see readers also connecting with the novel and its characters. In hearing their reactions, often deeply insightful, I’ve come to realise something: in writing this novel, my job wasn’t to come up with all the answers – instead, it was to ask the right questions.

Read "Wimmera The bestselling Australian debut from the Crime Writers’ Association Dagger winner" by Mark Brandi available from Rakuten Kobo/5(56).No book has ever had me in tears.

And as Wimmera drew to a close I sobbed and sobbed. I loved this book and felt profoundly moved by Fabio Motta’s gentle tender read. His narration provided perfect nuance to Brandi’s story of youthful innocence betrayed and destroyed beyond all recognition.
